You may have heard it said that we often overestimate what we can get done in a short period of time and underestimate what we can get done in a long period of time.
I find that one other thing we tend to underestimate is the progress that we are making towards a goal in life. Progress happens in the little moments, things that don’t seem to be that big of a deal in the moment, but when those small things are repeated over time, that’s when the change becomes apparent.
Often we end up discounting our progress. We think that nothing is happening, I’m not changing, or I keep going backwards. So we stop. And often we stop just short of being able to see that progress.
