About a year ago I attended a conference with approximately 40 other female entrepreneurs. At least 8 women approached me at various times during the conference to let me know that they binge.
They were all in various stages of their binge eating journey, but what I don't think they realized is just how many other women in that room were struggling in the same way.
You aren’t alone in your struggles with food.
On the one hand it might be comforting to know that you aren't the only one who struggles.
On the other, it might feel a little disappointing, or like there isn't hope for change if you have been doing this for a long time.
I want you to know that there is nothing wrong with you. There is a perfectly good reason why you do what you do with food.
As I had a conversation with one of the attendees who was sharing some personal details about a recent binge, I helped her understand how and why it made so much sense that it happened. As I explained it to her I saw the relief form on her face. She told me that she had never heard it explained in that way before. In an instant she was able to see herself with new eyes and have so much compassion for the part of her that binged.
Here is a podcast episode I did to help you get to know the part of you that binges. If you’ve only ever hated that part, this episode could change everything for you.
Change happens from a place of understanding and compassion. Lasting change will never come from judgment.
Understanding why you do what you do is the starting point.
Do you understand why you binge? Take the Why Do I Binge Quiz for the first step.
From a place of understanding, we can get to the true transformation where you develop a completely different relationship with yourself and with food.
One that is based upon safety, trust and connection.
Now, don’t get me wrong. We don’t just stop at understanding. But from there, you can be ready to take the next steps to truly begin to change.
Think about this for yourself - is your relationship with food based upon safety, trust and connection or something else?
If it’s anything else - you’ve got your roadmap. Create a relationship with food that is based upon safety, trust and connection.
