Chances are you fall in one of two camps: you either know what Substack is or you don’t.
If you don’t know what Substack is, or you’ve heard of it, but don’t really understand it, this post is for you.
If you do know what Substack is, but you don’t know much about me personally, scroll down to the section titled “Why I’m here” to find out more.
What is Substack?
Substack is a platform created by writers, for writers.
It’s kind of like a cross between a blogging platform, personal website, social media and podcast host. Basically anything you do in your online business, you can do on Substack.
I was first introduced to Substack by
. We are in a group together (the No BS Business Membership) and she was telling the other group members about the power of Substack. I signed up to be a part of her beta round for her online course The Insider’s Guide to Getting Traction on Substack. As I took her course I decided that I wanted to go all in on Substack and spend my time and energy here. (More on why below.)
What do I need to do?
Part of the beauty of Substack is that you, as the reader, don’t have to do anything. If you are subscribed to a Substack account (like The Peaceful Eater) you will receive all posts in your email inbox.
There is a separate Substack app that you can download to have access on the go, but you won’t miss a thing if you don’t do anything different. Most subscribers read straight from their inbox.
If you want to spend some time on Substack, you can find all kinds of writers and creatives providing content on every topic imaginable.
Why I’m here
Over the years I have personally noticed a direct correlation between the amount of time I spend on social media and my mental status. Overall I simply prefer to spend less time on social media. Movies like The Social Dilemma made it so clear that these platforms are designed to keep us sucked in.
I used to spend hours scrolling Facebook after a binge. Searching for answers, looking for help. But I never felt better. And the scroll never ended.
As I’ve been looking to expand my reach so that more people can understand and repair their relationship with food, I have tried to spend more time utilizing social media, but I still just don’t like it. It feels like playing a game, where you have to “keep up” with the algorithm and there are lots of tactics and strategies.
Here is what I love about Substack and why I’m here:
Substack is built upon a spirit of collaboration, not competition
There are no advertisements, nothing interrupting your experience
You get to choose what you read
When you are done reading the content you follow, the feed ends
No endless scrolling
Everything is in one place
The ability to provide workshops and access at a lower price point
The ability to create community in a way that works with my lifestyle
Why are you here?
Whether you are brand new to Substack and you are here because you followed me here from somewhere else, or you have been around Substack a long time, I’d love to know. Reply in the comments.

If you haven’t done so already, please subscribe so that you don’t miss anything from The Peaceful Eater. I’m all about experimentation so I plan to experiment with different ways to create content here and to see what resonates with me and with you, the reader.
Spread the Word
If you enjoy what you are reading and hearing inside The Peaceful Eater, I would love it if you would share this others. It’s my goal to reach as many people who struggle with food as possible to let them know that there is a perfectly good reason why you do what you do. You can become the type of eater you’ve always wanted to be. The Peaceful Eater will show you how.
